Our Training & Hire Centre is convenienty located right on the beach at 37 Jetty Rd, Sandringham.Sandringham harbour is a great venue to learn the fundamentals of sea kayaking and is a good base for hiring craft to explore Port Phillip Bay. If you are new to sea kayaking or wondering how you might take it up, come down to the centre and have a chat with our friendly staff.

Hiring before you buy makes a lot of sense. Our centre is right on the water so you may try as many boats as you like before you make that important purchase.
The adjacent harbour is protected from the southerly winds by Sandringham Breakwater and offers good paddling year round. To ensure the conditions are suitable to your experience level just call the centre for an on the spot weather observation. We will match a craft to your skills and ability to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. Hire rates up to $100 are refundable upon purchase of any new sea kayaks or accessories.
For hire durations of an hour or so the harbor offers interesting paddling amongst the moored boats and piers. For longer hires it is possible to paddle down to Half Moon Bay or St Kilda and return, weather depending. For all day hires pick up of sea kayaks can be arranged at the end of your trip free of charge.
Requirements:
Call in advance to organize a route that fits in with the weather and transport options.
For advanced bookings a valid Credit Card number will hold your kayak.
A $20 fee will be debited to your card for failure to show.
A Drivers License or Passport is sufficient for a rental bond.

*The Kayak Shop reserves the right to refuse hire to a customer who does not have the skills to handle the craft. Hire rates are subject to change without notice.
Inclusions: The hire fee includes craft, paddles and personal floatation device (PFD). Spray covers and helmets are supplied if needed. Extra accessories are available at a further charge. Where the hire period is longer than a day, a booking deposit will be taken prior to collection of the craft as confirmation of hire. This will amount to the total hire fee to be charged.

Conditions All craft and gear is maintained at a suitable and safe standard. Customers accept that craft and gear be returned in the same condition. Proof of identity must be produced prior to hire. The onus is on the hirer to prove proficiency. Assumption of Risk Form (PDF)
Liability Deposit Where hire is longer than a day, a liability deposit of $300 per craft is required and must be paid upon collection. Payments will be accepted in cash, eftpos or credit card. All payments must be made in full before gear is taken. The onus is on the hirer to treat all craft and accessories with respect and responsibility. Damage and/or loss of goods will be assessed upon return and the appropriate amount deducted from the deposit monies. Should the equipment not be returned due to loss or sustain severe damage the hirer must pay full replacement costs.
